Morning VRUK blog hoppers! Happy parkrun day!
How many of you do parkrun? I absolutely love it! I did my first one last August and for the rest of 2014 I really caught the bug and went pretty much every weekend I possibly could. Hubs and I even did one down in Kent on Christmas day!
My “home run” is Arrow Valley parkrun in Redditch – it’s a gorgeous two-lap route around a lake in the middle of a country park; I love it. It’s fairly flat with a little bit of a hill in the middle, and all on a nice smooth tarmac path. I’ve been a ‘tourist’ at a few different events now (Leamington in Warwickshire, Evesham in Worcestershire, Maidstone in Kent and Highbury Fields in London) but Arrow Valley is definitely my favourite. I haven’t run that many this year, but I do always try to go when I can. Since starting, my parkrun PB has come down from around 32 minutes to my most recent best which was 25:47 just a couple of weeks ago – I was so chuffed!!
I added a little bit of extra distance to parkrun this morning by running to and from the carpark and going the long way round to the start line. Having slightly tired legs from yesterday’s long run, and with the Two Castles 10km tomorrow, I took it fairly easy and just enjoyed it with the rain on my face. I finished in a time of 28:15 which is quite slow compared to my PB, but it still amazes me that I can now call sub-30 “slow”!
